Donkey Orchid

“Donkey Orchid” Australian Donkey Orchids, also know as Diuris species, are a group of orchids native to Australia. They are named after their unique and distinctive flowers, which resemble the face of a donkey when viewed from a certain angle.

There are several species of Australian Donkey Orchids, each with it’s own characteristics and distribution. These orchids are typically found in various habitats across Australia, including woodlands, grasslands, and heartlands.

The flowers of the Australian Donkey Orchid are usually small to medium in size and come in a range of colours, including yellow, brown, and purple. They often have intricate patterns and marking on the petals, which serve as attractive features to pollinators like native bees and wasps.

The flowering period varies depending on the species and location, but it generally occurs during spring and early summer.
